Safety is our #1 goal! Yes, mermaid tails are safe to swim in with proper training and supervision. Mermaid swimming is a new sport fused with synchronized swimming with monofin techniques. Swimming in a tail can be learned quickly with practice. It's suggested that swimmers under 6 should not use a tail and monofin. It's known that any aquatic activity has a high risk of drowning. Adding a tail costume where your legs are bound together can be dangerous for inexperienced swimmers. Before swimming in a tail you should be able to pass the mermaid readiness test by completing 5 essential swim skills.
- float on back: Able to safely relax in the water when tired
- roll from front float to back float: Able to comfortably turn in the water
- tread water for 60 seconds: Fitness test
- swim two laps: Unassisted swimming and maintain proper breathing
- swim using dolphin kick: This is the basic movement to swim in a tail
